As we wrap up 2016 and prepare for 2017, here are 3 steps for planting powerful seeds that set you up for a fabulous 2017 (if you want to skip straight to the steps, scroll to the middle)
As we look towards 2017…
May we integrate the lessons that we learned
May we release what no longer serves us
May we enjoy the lights and merriment that the holiday season brings
May we set clear intentions for our year ahead
May we take action towards those intentions
May we invest our time as the precious resource that it is
May we fuel our bodies so we have the energy to see our intentions through
May we remember that our thoughts and deeds impact ourselves and others and make decisions accordingly
Planting Powerful Seeds
3 steps for planting powerful seeds that set you up for a fabulous 2017
1. Letting Go
December 13/14, 2016: Full Moon
(Why are there 2 days listed for the Full Moon? Time zones. The precise time of the full moon is the same, so the date depends on where in the world you live)
Imagine that your thoughts were physical items that you could pack in a suitcase. Now imagine that you had to physically carry all of your “suitcases” with you from 2016 into 2017. Would you pack everything?
What might you choose to leave in 2016? Here’s one way you may want to consider approaching your decision for what to let go…
Notice your commonly reoccurring thoughts. Inventory them as if you were going to pack them. Take a look and think about what you need for the journey into 2017. For everything else, thank it and then with love and appreciation, leave it in 2016.
December 21, 2016: Winter Solstice
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, the Winter Solstice is both the first day of Winter and also the longest night.
The winter is a time for rejuvenation, introspection, and new beginnings. It’s the start of the next cycle. The big action of winter is happening below the surface.
Rest easy. Shift from human-doing into human-BEing. The “action” today is in the acceptance. Today is about joyful rejuvenation.
3. Clarity of Intentions
December 28/29, 2016: New Moon
Today is a great day to set clear intentions for 2017.
If it’s sunny out, sometimes I bundle up and take my journal outside. Regardless of where I do it, I like to journal without self-censorship.
(note: the uncensored writing can be done ahead of time or on the new moon… and if you are reading this and the new moon has already passed, it’s not too late! The moon cycle is a nice visual reminder, but it’s never too late to make a decision about how you want to direct your life’s journey.)
Once I finish the journal writing, I take some time to sift through the ideas, thoughts, and goals to find those that most fuel me and I type them up on a single sheet of paper.
One thing that works well for me is to put the year at the top (for example, this year’s one-sheeter will say “2017 intentions” at the top) and the current day’s date in the footer. Throughout the year, I may make tweaks as I learn and grow, but for the most part, the year is guided by the intentions I set for myself with this process.
Once I have my one-sheeter, I make copies and leave it in my car, my nightstand, my desk, etc … and I read and re-read it until it becomes a part of my often-repeating-thoughts (or what I call my personal operating system). It can be powerful tool for self-influence.
I hope you find that these 3 steps set you up well for the year ahead. The journey zigs and zags, but when we have something to aim for, we have a much better chance of getting there.
Wishes for abundant wellness today and always!
Happy New Year!
xo and be well,
