Life gets bumpy sometimes.
Anyone that has been alive long enough knows this to be true. Sometimes the bumpiness lasts a few minutes, sometimes a few days… and sometimes longer.
Have you ever experienced prolonged bumpiness?
If you have, what did you learn? When did you return to your “new normal”?
Looking back, 2016 shaped up to be a spiritually rigorous year for me. It felt like the earth beneath my feet quaked open and there was no longer a solid path to travel. The life lessons were persistent and seemed to insist that I journey through with eyes open. One foot in front of the other (sometimes it felt like one knee in front of the other), this year was a one-step-at-a-time, one-day-at-a-time kind of year. And now, here we are, peering forward into 2017.
I am super-looking forward to a fabulous 2017! How about you?
Here’s my personal plan for transitioning from an arduous 2016 into a fabulous 2017. If it resonates with you, I hope you’ll join me.
First, integrate the key lessons from 2016.

The next steps are inspired by Dan Gilbert’s “Surprising Science of Happiness” Ted Talk. In it, he talks about the importance of less choice as part of our happiness formula.
In the name of less choice, I will be taking a look at where and how I can incorporate mini-routines into my life.
Why mini-routines? Think about brushing your teeth. We don’t expend resources on making that decision, it’s just what we do. What does your teeth-brushing mini-routine look like?
Imagine how you’d feel if you didn’t brush your teeth. Did you imagine the feeling? What’s the opposite of that feeling? __________.
When we repeat our routines, they become habits. And when they become habits, they become part of our happiness formula. Which means, we can set ourselves up for a fabulous 2017 by strategically adding the right mini-routines into our lives. I am committing to design at least one new mini-routine. What about you?
