I’d like to introduce myself so you know a little bit more about who you are talking to…. To get to the heart of why Antonios and I started Training for Labor, I think I’ll need to open up my personal life a little more than I have on our other sites. Pregnancy, after all, is quite personal.
Antonios and I met during our college internships and grew our friendship with each mile of mountain biking trails we road during those 8 months. But we were twenty, and after our internship, we both went on our paths to set the world on fire.
And while it is difficult to fathom, that was a time before email and facebook, so following our own paths meant a paper letter or two and the next thing you know nearly 20 years had passed. The years between our biking days and our reconnection were rich with life lessons that helped form the people we are today.
As you can see from the picture above, in that time I had 2 children, which is where I got first hand experience in Training for Labor like the endurance event it is. I loved being pregnant and am so excited for the forum to share tools and tips for getting physically prepared for the “big day”.
I was a single mother for 8 years, starting from the time I was 2 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child; so in addition to talking about Training for Labor, I also intend to use this website to share tools for fitting wellness into the nooks and crannies of time you do have. You still need to take care of you so you can take care of your little ones!
How does falling head over heals in love with my college mountain biking partner get us to TrainingforLabor.com? If you are on this site, then it might be safe to assume you have pregnancy on your mind, so you may understand when I say that the idea of sharing the amazing experience of creating a tiny human with my beloved was a really exciting idea. Mother nature had other plans for us, but as I began to think about being pregnant again, I thought about my training regimen for the big day (yes, I really do plan for childbirth like a race), and I realized there still aren’t enough good resources out there for the fit pregnant woman that wants to keep exercising during pregnancy. Thus was born TrainingforLabor.com.
I totally loved my training, and I really loved that the training resulted in successful labors. I have a lot of wisdom to share. Hoping you will benefit from my experience.
My message to all you athletic vessels of life: I wish you so much strength as you prepare for the big event!
